Garden Governance
The Eric Street Community Garden is entirely volunteer driven and managed by a volunteer board of directors. Our bylaws support fair access, responsible care, and shared decision-making within the community.
Community Rules
- Respect the garden space: Treat all areas with care. Clean up after yourself and dispose of waste properly.
- Plot care: Gardeners are responsible for watering, weeding, and harvesting their own plots regularly.
- Common areas: Shared plants and the communal plot are for everyone. Take only what you need and avoid overharvesting.
- No chemical pesticides: Use organic gardening methods and avoid chemical pesticides and fertilizers.
- Work together: Participate in community workdays and gardening events to help maintain the garden.
- Respect others: Be courteous to fellow gardeners and neighbors. Do not disturb other plots without permission.
- Tree and fence care: Do not damage trees or fences. Report issues to garden coordinators immediately.
- Communication: Stay informed through announcements, meetings, and volunteer communications.
- Water use: Conserve water and use rainwater collection when possible. Report leaks or water system issues promptly.
- Payment rules: A 4ft by 8ft plot costs $35 and may be paid by cash or Interac transfer.
Shared Community Bed
One bed at the garden is allocated as a communal plot. This bed is used to grow produce that is available to all gardeners and the broader community, fostering shared harvests and group care.
